Episode 31: Finding Ways To Remember Those Who Gave It All.

On Episode 31 I’m joined by Photographer and military advocate, Kara Hackney who has dedicated her instagram page to bringing awareness and remembrance to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and who are actively serving.
After the events in Kabul Afghanistan in August 2021, Kara, like most of us, was disheartened at the unnecessary loss of life and the circumstances surrounding the entire evacuation process.  Kara was so hurt and angry that she almost vowed to get rid of social media completely.  It is truly an overwheeming and helpless feeling when it seems that there is nothing that can be done in such tragic circumstances but in true military fashion, and with true Marine grit, Kara decided to dedicate her social media to honoring the 13 killed in Kabul as well as survivors and others actively serving.  Kara herself is daughter to a Vietnam veteran and granddaughter to WWII veterans so a legacy of military service is a natural passion for her.

Episode 29: Strength Under Pressure

In episode 29 I am joined by former college quarterback, Breck Ruddick.  Breck, short for Breckinridge, has been immersed in sports for most of his life and he had, what most would consider to be an impressive collegiate football career as Quarterback. Breck gives us an inside view into what game day is like and provides us with insightful perspective that translates easily into tackling the challenges of everyday living.  
Breck also opens up about a freak accident that occurred while he was still in college involving a dog that would prove to be as challenging, or more challenging than the pressure of football.

Episode 28: An Angel of Kabul

On Episode 28 I am joined by Gold Star mom, Kelly Barnett, who also happens to be my sister in law.  Our lives were forever changed on August 26, 2021 in what will easily be a day etched in the minds and hearts of those that hold this country near and dear to their hearts.  This is the day that we lost not only an American Hero, but a Marine that had always been a hero to us.  On this day, SSGT Darin Taylor Hoover, along with 12 other American Patriots, was called home after selflessly serving his Marine brothers, the American People, and the people of Afghanistan.
Learn about the life of Taylor and what inspired him to become a Marine and hear the stories surrounding his multiple deployments to Afghanistan and other locations.  Hear of his courage and bravery, but also his everyday life of just being a loved son and big brother.
Although the events surrounding his time in Kabul leading up to August 26th can be described as sloppy, at best, we know that his sacrifice will not be in vain.  Please help us honor his memory by learning about the life of this selfless Marine and American Hero, Taylor Hoover.

Episode 27: Hope Of The Delta

Currently, the county where I reside in Arkansas has the 3rd highest number of abortions in the state and Arkansas, in general, has higher abortion rates than many other states.  In Episode 27 I am joined by Teresa Kundert and Nita Stone of “Hope of the Delta”, a non-profit organization that not only provides ultrasounds, parenting classes, and supplies to those expecting parents, but also provide an alternative to abortion by means of Faith, Prayer, and the Word of God, all at no cost to the client.
The emotional, spiritual, and physical baggage that comes along with having an abortion is a side of abortion that is rarely discussed.  This conversation is eye opening and provides an alternative perspective to the consequences of abortion, and gives hope and comfort to those that are healing from their choice to have an abortion in the past.

Episode 26: Panel Discussion on Mental Health in the Church

On this Episode I was asked to participate in a zoom panel discussion on mental health in the church.  Annie Ester was the host and I was joined by Pastor Marquis Cooper, Sr, M.Ed, who is senior pastor of Otter Creek Community Church.  I was also joined by Valisha Wilson, owner of Divinity 350, and Pastor Bobby Luckett, Jr.
This panel discussion focused on the stigma surrounding the topic of mental health in the church and pondered ways that we may useful in delivering help to those in our congregations who may be struggling with mental health problems.
Just a week prior to this discussion, Pastor Cooper’s niece was killed by her boyfriend as a result of mental health and Pastor Luckett shares his story of divorce and how he was suicidal, all while continuing to minister and play music at his church.
This discussion is eye opening for believers and those serving in the church!

Episode 25: Creative Conversations on Music, Art & Faith

On Episode 25 I had the pleasure of sitting down with long time friend (framily member) Amber Rae Dunn (@amberraedunn) to discuss what is going on in her world as a budding music artist and creative.  Amber has gained a following singing her “old style” country music but she is definitely not a one trick pony as she relays that we can expect some different styles on her follow up Album to “Arkansas Line”, titled, “I Guess That’s Life”.

Episode 24: A Dialogue on Holy Week

In Episode 24 I am joined by pastors Michael Smith (Lead Pastor) and Haley Bryant (Women’s Pastor) of Victory Church of the Mid-South for a dialogue on Holy Week.  Holy Week is significant in the life of a believer as scripture details the final week of the earthly life of Christ.
From the triumphal entry on Sunday, to the crucifixion on Friday, there were significant events that took place during the final week of Jesus life yet scripture recounts that Jesus was obedient to the will of the Father, even unto death, even knowing what was awaiting Him within a short period of time.  
It is pointed out during the conversation that Friday, being the final day of Jesus earthly life was about what was happening to Him but that Saturday, the day that hope must have seemed lost and dead in the hearts of the people, was about what happened to us. We had lost our hope of a King.
Thankfully, this week ends with the pinnacle of Christianity when Jesus fulfilled His promise and resurrected on the third day.  I hope you enjoy the conversation on Holy Week!  Don’t forget to follow us on YouTube here!

Episode 23: Hometown Leadership

Darin McCollum of the Boys and Girls club of Crittenden County joins us for episode 23 on Hometown Leadership.  Darin has been on staff with the Boys and Girls Club for over 28 years and shares why he chose to stay and serve this community for an extended period of time working with the children and youth of Crittenden County.  
Darin also recounts an experience of 5 brothers whose mother was murdered in front of them and how the Boys and Girls club was able to walk alongside them during this tragedy by providing stability through programming and just care for them as people.
There is no question about the impact Darin McCollum and his staff at the Boys and Girls Club of Crittenden County have had on our community.
