Episode 62: AI Dating & The Impact On Young Men
Tuesday Nov 07, 2023
Tuesday Nov 07, 2023
I’m reminded of the movie “The 6th Day” with Arnold Schwarzenegger which takes place some time in the future. I’m probably telling my age if I’m referencing a movie with Arnold but, well, it is what it is.
This movie takes place sometime in the future and one of the elements that I remember vividly is that Arnold’s best friend in the movie had for a wife a woman that was, well, artificial. He was able to talk to her as if she was a really person and thanks to technology, he could even simulate touch and we all know what that means.
Like most movies that used to seem outlandish, technology is making what was once considered impossible, indeed, very possible. In this episode I reference an article by professor of data science at Washington University, Liberty Vittert, title “AI Girlfriends Are Ruining An Entire Generation of Men.” (The Hill). She gives some staggering stats on how men, specifically young men are being effected by this new phenomenon and how this play into our society as a whole. In an interview on CNN Liberty goes on to say that we are just in the beginning phases of this AI craze and that it won’t be long before the tech will not only allow someone to chat with an AI girlfriend, but like Arnolds best friend in the movie, it will have the capability to simulate real, physical touch.
As always, we discuss this new epidemic, as described in the article, through the lens of the Christian faith.

Episode 59: Suicide, Addiction, & Recovery
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
I have the privilege of working both in ministry, and higher education and a theme that arises, without fail, is that of mental health, depression, anxiety, along with the question of how can I get relief from this pandemic of the mind and soul.
Ironically, much of the conversation is centered around the pandemic that is to blame for a large increase in depression and anxiety, or at the least, is responsible for bringing the conversation of mental health to the forefront.
September, being National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and National Recovery Month allows us to continue the conversation on the importance of maintaining a positive heart and head space while encouraging others to know that they are not alone in this fight.

WHY JUNTO?
Junto, pronounced with a "J" sound is a play off the word "together" in Spanish which is spelled the same way, but pronounced with an "H" sound. My experience in ministry as a pastor, and my time working in a college setting as a student coordinator and professor have inspired this podcast as means of encouragement through the simplicity of conversation.
My adult career has been spent, in one form or another, in engaging with people and if there is anything I have learned, it's that life is better, when we do it together. The Junto Podcast was created with this idea in mind to empower and motivate people through means of leadership, faith, and having a community mindset. While topics may vary from episode to episode, the conversations will always come back to our main ideals of how can I apply this topic to enable me to become a better leader and how can I inspire others to engage in this open and honest dialogue. I hope that you find these episodes enlightening, entertaining, and honest and that they inspire you to join the conversation. Life is truly better, when we do it together.
